Executive Director

Job Description – Now Hiring for Summer of 2027

Direct reports include: Program Director, Maintenance Director, Kitchen Director, Waterfront Director, Health Director, Store Director, and Executive Assistant

Camp Wakeshma is seeking an Executive Director to lead summer camp operations. This role is
seasonal (January to September) with most of the work to manage enrollment, hiring and the
summer season. The Camp Director is required to live on property for 10-weeks of summer sessions (early-June to mid-August).

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Camp Wakeshma summer operations (55 staff members & 132 campers)
  • Promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. community and deliver on mission statement
  • Manage the receipt and process of camp registrations, waitlist, and cancelations
  • Manage website, UltraCamp, Square, and other data systems needed for operations
  • Develop and operate fiscal year budget and maintain accurate financial records, ensure
    prompt vendor payment and manage accurate staff payroll
  • Communicate with parents during summer season as well as off-season
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate camp staff
  • Work with camp executive assistant to manage administrative tasks as applicable: registration, website, bookkeeping, etc.
  • Promote camp via local events, website, email, and printed materials
  • Work with schools to provide scholarships/camperships
  • Maintain relationships with camp vendors to ensure smooth operations and that
    supplies are purchased and paid for as needed
  • Arrange for camp inspections and maintain summer camp operating license
  • Execute necessary background checks.
  • Oversee seasonal “opening” and “closing” of camp facilities, and ensure stewardship of all
    camp equipment, grounds, and buildings
  • Ensure camp is occupied on summer weekends by appropriate personnel
  • Manage off-season projects relating to facilities and grounds with board members and maintenance staff
  • Work to accomplish strategic direction from Board of Directors
  • Report timely & accurate data to Board: licensing requirements, registration, demographics, parent survey on Google Forms, etc. Includes analyze responses, and make/suggest changes based on info/feedback
  • Secure applicable grant and donations
  • Work to promote camp at the local level in St Joe County and surrounding school districts,
    and ensure a positive relationship with Camp Eberhart and Corey Lake Association

Camp Executive Assistant

Job Description – Position filled for 2026

Responsible to: Executive Camp Director

Responsibilities:

  • promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • answer emails, and phone calls, giving accurate information in positive, assuring manner, and relay messages to appropriate persons
  • responsible for office@campwakeshma.com email account
  • configure online registration and process camper registration information
  • communicate effectively with visitors (families, prospective campers, vendors, past staff members, etc.)
  • communicate effectively with all camp staff and campers
  • keep confidential information private
  • maintain expense reporting and document invoices for camp office (file invoices, camper paperwork, receipts, etc.)
  • communicate with Camp Director regarding phone calls, visitors, bills, and issues with other employees and/or contractual workers
  • help to maintain a clean office and work space
  • send and receive mail, check PO Box, opening and sorting it when appropriate
  • fill in as Camp Health Officer, as needed
  • responsible for camp photos and camp digital photo site
  • perform other duties as determined by the Executive Camp Director

Program Director

Responsible to: Executive Camp Director

Responsibilities:

  • promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • lead the leadership staff
  • assist in the growth of the leadership staff through meetings
  • promote high levels of communication with the waterfront staff to ensure a connected camp community
  • communicate needed repairs to maintenance director and assistant
  • develop and evaluate the day-to-day operation of the camp programs/activities
  • help develop staff training
  • help facilitate staff training
  • work with the camp director to develop and facilitate emergency drills
  • organize and arrange cabin assignments
  • organize and arrange class assignments
  • facilitate junior counseling program/class
  • work to ensure camp passes health inspections
  • hire, train, supervise, and evaluate unit leaders, counselors, junior counselors
  • perform other duties as determined by the Executive Camp Director

Leave time:
The program director will get one 24 hour period per work week, from noon until noon,
excluding the first day and the last day of a camp week. If a work week is shortened to just 4 nights,
then no day off is given during that time.

Waterfront Director

Job Description – Position filled for 2026

Responsible to: Executive Camp Director

Responsibilities:

  • promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • lead waterfront staff
  • lead any staff member working at the waterfront (buddy board attendants)
  • work to ensure a safe waterfront
  • promote high levels of communication with program director and staff to ensure a connected camp community
  • assist in growth of waterfront staff through meetings
  • work with the program director to develop and evaluate the day-to-day operation of the waterfront
    programs, cabin activities, and classes
  • help develop staff training
  • help facilitate staff training
  • work with the director and program director to develop and facilitate waterfront emergency drills
  • conduct swim tests
  • facilitate a waterfront class
  • facilitate water carnival and all other “major” waterfront programs
  • report needed repairs to the maintenance director
  • help with waterfront maintenance
  • ensure that waterfront staff has needed certifications
  • hire, train, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards
  • support operation of med shed
  • participate in/assist with check-in/check-out procedures relating to campers’ health
  • supervise and assist lifeguards in cleaning of bathhouse
  • order, inventory, and monitor bathhouse supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap) as well as
    cleaning supplies
  • work to ensure camp passes health inspections
  • perform other duties as determined by the Executive Camp Director

Leave time:
The waterfront director will get two evenings off per week, from 5:00 PM to midnight,
unless a work week is shortened to just 4 nights. Then one evening off is permitted.

Store Director

Job Description – Position filled for 2026

Responsible to: Executive Camp Director

Responsibilities:

  • promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • lead camp staff who assist in the camp store (work periods) and arts ‘n’ crafts class
  • keep inventory of all store goods on a regular basis
  • communicate with camp director regarding sales, inventory, and finances
  • maintain a clean storage room, store, and arts ‘n crafts area
  • wash, fold, and organize weekly lost ‘n found items
  • facilitate arts ‘n crafts class
  • balance accounts at the end of the week
  • office clerk duties
  • facilitate camp store at dances
  • order camp store and arts and crafts goods
  • during check-in, receive monies from parents to put in camper store accounts
  • during check-out, sell merchandise on a cash basis and balance those sales

Leave time:

Kitchen Director

Health Officer

  • meet with parents at check in to collect and organize health history forms and medication
  • distribute medication after meals and in the evening to campers and staff members
  • assist with any medical needs throughout the day and overnight as needed
  • distribute left-over medications to camper/parents at checkout
  • help with homesick campers
  • live on-site to assist campers with medical needs 24 hours a day
  • maintain a clean, functional, and organized health office/med shed

  • conduct periodic checks of cabins throughout the day
  • patrol cabin area during the day and evening
  • lead songs after lunch and dinner
  • lead flagpole announcements
  • conduct camp tours
  • fill in at other positions when coverage is needed

Lifeguard

Leave time:
Lifeguards will get one night off per work week from 5 PM to 10 PM.

Kitchen Assistant

Responsible to: Kitchen Director

Responsibilities:

  • promote the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • assist in preparation of meals
  • assist in inventory of food and kitchen supplies
  • maintain a clean kitchen and storage units
  • check and record cooler temperature
  • help unload goods from food truck
  • prepare late night baskets
  • follow kitchen guidelines
  • work with families to meet special dietary needs of campers – talk with them at check-in/check-out to
  • ensure the camp has adequate information and the families are comfortable
  • orientate dishwashers each week – remind them of responsibilities and procedures of the dishroom
  • inform kitchen director or camp director of any problems relating to the kitchen/dishroom/lodge/etc.
  • perform other duties as determined by the Executive Camp Director

Leave time:
Kitchen assistants will get the evening of the cook-out off from dinner until taps.

Maintenance Assistant

  • follow instructions from and work with the maintenance director
  • keep maintenance director informed of maintenance needs and situations

Leave time:
Maintenance assistant will have from 3 PM Friday to Sunday noon off unless there is an
urgent need. That need is at the discretion of the executive director.

Outdoor Education Coordinator

Job Description – Now Hiring for 2026

Responsible to: Program Director & Executive Camp Director

Responsibilities:

  • Promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • Create and implement dynamic, educational curriculum for nature and hiking classes
  • Design lesson plans and free-time activities focused on local ecosystems, outdoor skills, conservation, and experiential learning
  • Plan, design, and maintain hiking trails across more than 15 acres of Camp Wakeshma land
  • Develop trail maps, install signage, and ensure trails are safe, informative, and accessible to campers of all ages and abilities
  • Train staff on the usage of trails throughout the summer
  • Oversee upkeep and cleanliness of the Nature Center
  • Develop educational displays and assist with interpretive programs
  • Maintain fire circles and surrounding areas, ensuring they are safe for group activities
  • Lead or assist with campfire programs, providing a positive and educational experience for campers
  • Prepare staff for emergencies, outdoor survival, and navigation
  • Ensure staff are equipped with the necessary wilderness skills and knowledge to lead outdoor activities safely
  • Wilderness First Aid or CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before the start date)
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Program Director

The Outdoor Education Coordinator will get one 24 hour period per work week off, from noon until noon, excluding the first day and the last day of the camp week. If a work week is shortened to just 4 nights, then no day off is given during that time.

Senior Camp Counselor

Job Description – Now Hiring for 2026

Responsible to: Program Director and Unit Leaders

Responsibilities:

  • promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • must be 18 years of age
  • lead junior counselors and campers
  • report any signs of misconduct to the camp director
  • greet campers and parents during check-in
  • check cabin every 15 minutes during free time
  • facilitate class
  • work with homesick campers
  • take part in a work period
  • live in cabin with campers
  • organize campers at flagpole
  • conduct a headcount of cabin group when instructed
  • help make sure campers are listening during directions and announcements
  • sit with campers during meals
  • sing camp songs after lunch and dinner with cabin
  • properly check out campers last day of camp
  • clean cabin at end of each week
  • attend daily meetings
  • perform other duties as determined by the Executive Camp Director

Leave time:
Counselors will get 3 “nights out,” from just after taps to midnight, during weeks camp is in session from Sun.- Sat. For shorter weeks, they’ll get 2 nights out. During these “nights out,” counselors must stay at camp between the lodge and the waterfront unless given specific permission otherwise.

Camp Counselor

  • live in cabin with campers
  • organize campers at flagpole
  • conduct a headcount of cabin group when instructed
  • help make sure campers are listening during directions and announcements
  • sit with campers during meals
  • sing camp songs after lunch and dinner with cabin
  • make sure that all campers have checked out the appropriate way
  • clean cabin at end of each week – bleach mattresses, sweep floors, empty garbage cans, place
    items left behind in lost and found, turn off lights and fans, close doors
  • assist in cleaning bath houses
  • attend daily meetings to exchange information with camp directors

Leave time:
Counselors will get 3 “nights out,” from just after taps to midnight, during weeks camp is in session from Sun.- Sat. For shorter weeks, they’ll get 2 nights out. Junior Counselor/Dishwasher

Every Junior Counselor will have at least one week of Dishwashing.

Must be 16 by first day of Camp
Responsible to: Kitchen Leader

Responsibilities:

  • promote the C.A.M.P.P. Wakeshma community
  • clean and sanitize all dishes
  • inventory cleaning chemicals and keep maintenance in camp director aware of low supplies
  • conduct and record chlorine tests
  • maintain a clean dishroom
  • help jumpers clean and prep tables
  • help unload goods from food truck
  • take trash and recycling from lodge to proper receptacles
  • inform kitchen director or camp director of any problems relating to the dishroom/lodge/etc.
  • once dishwasher responsibilities are complete, work with cabin counselor in the role of junior
    counselor

Leave time:
Dishwashers will get one night out from taps until midnight. During this night out
dishwashers must remain at camp between the lodge and the waterfront unless given specific
permission otherwise.

Night Cook/Photographer

Job Description – Now Hiring for 2026

Responsible to: Kitchen Director, Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  • promote the C.A.M.P. Wakeshma Community
  • assist in preparation of meals
  • prepare, cook, and serve all evening meals
  • oversee all end day cleaning of kitchen/lodge cleaning
  • check all end day food temperatures, and cleanliness of refrigerators and freezers
  • inform Kitchen Director or Executive Director of any food or kitchen related issues
  • attend classes, events, and camp activities to take pictures of campers and events
  • maintain photography equipment
  • end of each evening upload pictures onto cloud
  • perform other duties as determined by Kitchen Director or Executive Director
